Topical Capsaicin and CHS: Research, Limits and Safety
Published studies have examined topical capsaicin in adults with suspected cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. They did not evaluate CHSSOS 0.2% and do not establish that this product treats or relieves CHS.

CHSSOS is a topical warming cream formulated with 0.2% capsaicin. It creates a localized warming sensation on the skin. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent CHS or any disease.
Why is topical capsaicin discussed in CHS research?
Capsaicin activates TRPV1, a heat-sensitive receptor in the skin, and creates a localized warming sensation. Researchers have investigated topical capsaicin in adults whose nausea and vomiting were suspected to be related to CHS.
The evidence is limited and exploratory. One randomized pilot trial evaluated 0.1% topical capsaicin in 30 adults. The study reported a difference in nausea at 60 minutes, not at its primary 30-minute assessment, and one participant stopped because of skin irritation.
The study did not evaluate CHSSOS or a 0.2% formulation. Its findings do not establish that CHSSOS treats, relieves, cures, or prevents CHS. Persistent vomiting or signs of dehydration require medical care. Stopping cannabis use remains central when CHS is suspected.
CHSSOS 0.2% topical warming cream
The research discussed above concerns topical capsaicin generally. It is not evidence that CHSSOS 0.2% treats or relieves CHS. The links below provide product details, pack sizes, pricing, safety information, and checkout options.

Topical capsaicin research, limits, and safety
What has clinical research evaluated about topical capsaicin and suspected CHS?
A randomized pilot trial evaluated 0.1% topical capsaicin in 30 adults with vomiting suspected to be related to CHS. It reported a difference in nausea at 60 minutes, not at its primary 30-minute assessment, and one participant stopped because of skin irritation. The study was small and exploratory.
Did published studies evaluate CHSSOS 0.2%?
No. The pilot trial described on this page used a different 0.1% topical capsaicin formulation. It did not evaluate CHSSOS or establish that CHSSOS 0.2% treats, relieves, cures, or prevents CHS.
What warming sensation can topical capsaicin create on the skin?
Topical capsaicin can create localized warmth, burning, stinging, or redness where it is applied. The intensity varies. Stop using it and seek medical advice for severe burning, swelling, blistering, breathing difficulty, or another significant reaction.
What safety warnings apply to topical capsaicin?
Follow the current product label. Topical capsaicin is for external use only. Do not apply it to broken or irritated skin, keep it away from the eyes, nose, and mouth, do not use tight bandages, and do not combine it with heating pads or other direct heat.
When do vomiting or dehydration require urgent medical care?
Seek prompt medical care when fluids will not stay down or there is fainting, confusion, very little urine, blood in vomit, chest pain, severe or unusual abdominal pain, or another sign of significant dehydration. Do not rely on a topical product for these warning signs.
What does 0.2% capsaicin mean?
The 0.2% describes the concentration of capsaicin in the CHSSOS formula. It is product information, not proof of greater effectiveness or evidence that the product treats CHS. Use each topical capsaicin product according to its own label.
