1. What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how CHS SOS collects, uses, retains, and shares information on chssos.blog. The CHS SOS shop is a separate website and may provide additional privacy notices at checkout.
CHS SOS provides general educational information and product information. It is not a healthcare provider, and this website is not intended to create a clinician-patient relationship.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Email updates: your email address, consent date, signup source, and landing page.
- Optional personalization preferences: if you separately choose to provide them after the Symptom Check, we store an age range, what brings you to CHS SOS, selected content interests, email-frequency preference, and the date and source of that separate consent. We do not request an exact birth date, sex or gender, exercise habits, diagnosis, treatment history, or quiz answers for this profile.
- Article comments: your public display name and comment; your private email address, moderation data, consent date, and article source; and, only when separately selected, reply-notification, email-update, or SMS choices and a mobile number. Do not include medical records, diagnoses, or other sensitive details in a public comment.
- Contact form: your name, email address, inquiry category, message, consent date, and whether you separately requested email updates.
- Privacy requests: the information necessary to verify and complete your request.
Information collected automatically
- Essential operations: security logs, IP address, browser information, timestamps, and request details may be processed by WordPress and our hosting provider to deliver and protect the site.
- Site analytics: unless you turn analytics off in the footer or your browser sends Global Privacy Control, Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats may receive page views, interactions, referrer, device/browser information, and approximate location derived from IP address.
Your Symptom Check answers are processed in your browser. They are not submitted to CHS SOS, saved in WordPress, included in analytics events, or connected to your email or optional preferences.
3. How we use information
- Review and publish article comments, keep discussions safe, and send a one-time reply notice when requested.
- Respond to the message or request you send.
- Send CHS guides and research updates when you separately subscribe.
- Use separately consented preferences to select more relevant CHS SOS email and website communications.
- Maintain proof of optional SMS consent and deliver SMS updates only when that channel is selected.
- Understand content performance when site analytics is active.
- Protect forms and the website from abuse, fraud, and security threats.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We do not use health-related browsing or subscriber preferences for advertising, and we do not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
4. When information is shared
We disclose information only as needed to operate the requested service:
- GoDaddy/WordPress hosting: site delivery, database hosting, security, and server logs.
- Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats: usage measurement while site analytics is active. Subscriber emails, optional profile fields, and Symptom Check answers are not sent in analytics events.
- Constant Contact: authorized CHS SOS staff may export consented subscriber emails and separately consented preferences to our email provider to deliver and segment the updates requested.
- Email providers: delivery of contact messages and support replies.
- CHS SOS store and Shopify: when you choose to leave this site for product information or checkout, the destination site receives the normal request and its own privacy terms apply.
- Legal and safety disclosures: when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, security, and users.
CHS SOS does not sell personal information or consumer health data, provide it to data brokers, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Retention
- Approved article comments remain while the discussion is public; rejected, spam, and private communication metadata are reviewed and removed when no longer operationally necessary or when a verified deletion request applies.
- Contact messages stored in WordPress are deleted after 12 months.
- Email subscriber records and any separately consented preferences are kept until you unsubscribe, withdraw personalization consent, ask us to delete them, or they are no longer operationally necessary.
- Privacy-choice cookies are retained for up to 365 days.
- Security logs and optional analytics follow the reasonable retention settings of the relevant service provider.
6. Your privacy rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know or access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information; withdraw consent; or opt out of certain processing. CHS SOS extends access, correction, and deletion requests to all users when we can reasonably verify the request.
Email support@chssos.com or use the contact form and select “Privacy request.” We will use the information provided only to verify and respond. Where an appeal is required by law, our response will explain how to appeal.
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in an email or by contacting us. You can turn analytics off or back on at any time with the “Site analytics” control in the footer.
7. California disclosures
CHS SOS does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We honor applicable browser-based opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, by keeping site analytics off. Because the older Do Not Track signal does not communicate a consistent choice, the site does not act on it; use the “Site analytics” footer control to change analytics. This site does not knowingly offer financial incentives in exchange for personal information.
8. Children
This website and its forms are intended for a general adult audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information may contact us to request deletion.
9. Security and international processing
We use access controls, HTTPS, limited administrator access, spam controls, and retention limits designed to protect information. No online system can guarantee absolute security. Service providers may process information in the United States or other locations where they operate.
10. Changes and contact
We will update the effective date when this policy materially changes. If a change would materially expand how previously collected information is used, we will provide appropriate notice and seek consent when required.
