I was diagnosed with Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome after my third ER visit in six months. The symptoms were unbearable: nonstop vomiting, severe cramps, and the only relief was a scalding hot shower. Is anyone else managing this long-term? What has worked for you?
I went through the same thing. Three ER visits before anyone mentioned CHS. The hard truth is the only real cure is stopping cannabis entirely. Within two weeks of quitting my symptoms disappeared completely.
My GI specialist explained it as the endocannabinoid system becoming dysregulated with prolonged heavy use. The hot shower relief is a diagnostic clue distinguishing CHS from other GI conditions. The only evidence-backed treatment is cannabis cessation.
I tried cutting back instead of quitting and it did not work. Episodes kept returning. Only after 3 full cannabis-free months was I truly symptom free. Hardest thing I ever did but absolutely worth it.
