Weed Hangover Symptoms

A weed hangover doesn’t look identical from person to person, but there’s a recognizable pattern most people describe: some mix of physical grogginess, mental fog, and mild stomach discomfort that shows up hours after use and fades over the course of a day.

The most common symptoms

Headache and dry mouth top the list for most people, usually tied to dehydration. Brain fog and difficulty concentrating are close behind — a kind of mental sluggishness that’s different from just being tired. Fatigue and low motivation are common too, along with mild nausea in some cases, particularly after edibles.

Less common but still normal

Some people report eye irritation, mild dizziness, or a lingering “heavy” feeling in the limbs. None of these are dangerous on their own, and they typically overlap with poor sleep quality from the night before rather than being caused by cannabis directly.

Edibles vs. smoking

Symptoms tend to be more pronounced after edibles than after smoking, mainly because of how the liver processes ingested THC into a longer-acting, more potent compound. Someone who ate a strong edible is more likely to wake up with real grogginess than someone who smoked a similar overall amount.

What separates this from something more serious

Ordinary weed hangover symptoms are mild, don’t involve repeated vomiting, and resolve within a day. If nausea escalates into vomiting that keeps happening, or if this pattern repeats after use on a regular basis, that’s a different picture — closer to what’s described in our full CHS symptoms checklist than a standard hangover.

FAQ

Can a weed hangover cause vomiting?

Mild nausea is common, especially after edibles, but actual vomiting is not typical of a standard weed hangover. Recurring vomiting points toward something else, which we cover in this article on cannabis and vomiting.

How do I know if it’s a hangover or something worse?

Duration is the biggest clue. A hangover fades within a day. Anything that keeps recurring cycle after cycle warrants a closer look.
